News & Activities

• December 31, 2007: Retired from the faculty of the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) after 26 years of service, reaching another milestone in his 31-year career in government accounting teaching, research and public service.

• February 22, 2008: Was honored with the Enduring Lifetime Contribution Award by the American Accounting Association (AAA) Government and Nonprofit (G&NP) Section at the Section’s 2008 Mid-year Meeting in San Antonio. AAA President Gary Previts presented the award; Section President Saleha Khumawala read the citation; and the CIGAR Network’s Klaus Lueder (former President) and Rowan Jones (current President) paid attributes.

• 2007-2009: Is serving as chairman of the International Committee of the AAA G&NP Section with the goal of revitalizing CIGAR in North America; a call for participation will go to the Section’s members in the near future.

• February, 2008: Has been appointed to the Public Sector Technical Committee of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), a London-based organization with many members and extensive programs in Asia and Africa.

• April, 2008: Will be visiting China with an itinerary that includes:o Presenting a paper on comparative budget law at a seminar held at Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou;

  • A visit to Central South University of Finance and Economics in Wuhan to discuss future cooperation;
  • A visit to Central University of Finance and Economics in Beijing to discuss future cooperation;
  • Participating in a conference on public finance held at Beijing University;
  • Discussing a joint project with colleagues at the Research Institute of Fiscal Science in Beijing.

• May-July, 2008: Will be a Visiting Professor at the University of Cagliari in southern Sardinia, Italy, for three months beginning May 1, to give a series of doctoral seminars and to work with Professor Aldo Pavan and his colleagues on a research project.

• May 15, 2008: Will make presentations on accounting for national government assets at an international conference organized by the Supreme Audit Office of the Czech Republic in Prague.

• June 5, 2008: Will address Italian academics and practitioners in public administration on the topic: “From Accounting to Accountability: Implementing an Expanding Vision of Professional Service to the State and the People” at a conference in Salerno.
